As I've gotten older, I've found myself conflicted in meeting people. I'm not the young guy who just wants attention any such way he can get it; desperate for anything resembling affirmation. I easily tire of conversation of many types and have understood there us much more to be said about the quality of relationships as opposed to their quantity. But the down side is I don't like this feeling of slowly detaching from the company of others. I still have a craving for closeness and connection as much as anyone breathing. I'm in prison... and that doesn't help. Quality of friendships built in here is iffy, at best. And the fact is, most guys are more interested in types of conversation that revolve around destructive types of thinking. I've been in here since I was a youth and figured out around the age of 28 or so that I didn't much like being destructive anymore. Internally, it's great to distance myself from bad influence. But, it does lead to isolation and I'm still very human. I just want something a bit beyond surface conversation. While I have plenty of insecurity about putting myself out there in an authentically vulnerable fashion; I understand it is the only manner one can successfully find friends. I won't utter the cliché of 'being an open book' but I'm easy enough to talk to. Anyone who does wish to talk... it would be nice to read something beyond a 'what's up?' or 'hi'. I respond with thought and need something more than a few syllables to respond to. It costs nothing to simply take a chance and share some thoughts with a (mostly) stranger. I do need to add that it's very difficult for me to talk with anyone outside the US. Prisons all have their own messaging, phone andor emailing services and the company in charge of Oregon's services makes it nearly impossible for people outside the US to make use of. It's personally quite frustrating but one I can't do much about. I've always liked talking to people across the world but it is simply too difficult. But... such is life. The best time I had in h
